Don't Forget To Digitally Detox On Your Eco-Vacation!

Coral Reefs

Thanks to recent global events, many of us have been spending more time at home. Whether we are working, playing, relaxing, or attending school, the amount of digital media coming at us from devices, computers, and screens is more concentrated than ever before.

The Effects Of Our Digital Age On Analog Bodies

The effects of electromagnetic radiation given off by our digital devices significantly impact the human body over time. While moderate exposure to EMF (electromagnetic frequencies) does not usually result in health consequences, the effects of constant or excess exposure include:

  • Headaches

  • Tremors, shakiness

  • Inability to concentrate

  • Memory loss

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Changes in blood pressure

From power lines to television sets, we are bombarded daily with these frequencies. If we don’t take time to turn devices off and unplug from time to time, the effects of these frequencies can build up in the body, causing these and other issues. Taking some time to “digitally detox” every once in a while, is relaxing and enjoyable, and you’ll experience greater peace of mind as you unplug.

Do a detox while traveling

Recent movements toward eco-tourism have raised awareness of cleaner, greener living practices, even while people vacation. Some really amp up their “greening” efforts and choose to do a digital detox while traveling to connect with their experience.

A digital detox involves disconnecting from all devices such as personal computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. As you do so, you’ll get back to the business of using your time to focus on vacation experiences and relationships. The ability to enjoy those “now” moments is considerably enhanced without the pressure to engage in screen time, which can be both frustrating and addictive.

Why do it during travel?

Digital detox is an essential and important step needed to take a break from the stressors of everyday life, as well as the constant pressure to maintain a presence in our digital world. A nature-based eco vacation is a perfect place to do this, as many of these destinations do not readily offer internet access to their customers.

Of course, the possibility of work and personal emergencies is always a possibility. For these occasions, almost all eco-destinations can connect you fast with the people you need to speak with to manage your affairs. You set digital detox parameters; you determine your unique needs and what level of disconnection you’ll enjoy while immersing yourself in your eco-vacation.

Determining your unique needs and situation

A recent study with several vacationers in various stages of work and life revealed that not everyone views disconnection from media positively. The majority favored a periodic, short-term detox, while some mentioned that the anxiety of wondering what was happening while they were away did much to damper vacation activities. People with significant work and personal responsibilities may not be able to completely disconnect, but setting some hours of availability allowed them to relax and unwind as they intended to do during their vacations.

The combination of digital detox and eco-friendly vacation destinations is the perfect cocktail of immersion and experience. People across the globe are now looking for more authentic vacation experiences, ones where they can create rich memories that last a lifetime. The digital detox greatly enhances one’s ability to enjoy the moment and all that it has to offer.
